Celebrating business excellence across the region
The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) has been championing businesses across the region for generations. Its awards programme is one of the largest and most respected in the Midlands, recognising outstanding organisations and individuals from Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield & Tamworth, Burton and Cannock.
As the wider Chamber evolved its services and member experience, the awards programme was ready for its own transformation.
The existing identity no longer reflected the ambition, diversity and forward-thinking nature of the businesses it celebrated. Alongside a review of the award categories themselves, the Chamber wanted a modern, inclusive and aspirational brand that would generate excitement, encourage participation and create a clearer pathway between regional and Greater Birmingham recognition.
Building a brand that belongs to everyone
Working closely with the Chamber team, we explored how the awards could better reflect the breadth of organisations within the network.
Award categories had already been reimagined, moving away from generic titles such as “Business of the Year” towards more meaningful categories like “Breakthrough Business” and “Community Champion”. The brand needed to support this shift whilst creating stronger connections between the regional awards and the flagship Greater Birmingham event.
A key challenge was developing a brand architecture that worked across six geographical divisions whilst feeling like one unified programme. We created a flexible identity system that brought the awards together under a single framework, using regional colour palettes to provide clear visual signposting whilst reinforcing the prestige of progressing from regional recognition to the Greater Birmingham stage.
The end result is fresh, vibrant and really reflects what we're trying to achieve with these awards. The feedback since the launch has been fantastic - people have commented on how strong and coherent the branding feels, while still recognising the different elements across the awards programme. We're really excited to see the identity come to life at our live events and continue to roll out across the region. It's something we're all incredibly proud of.
Evolving a trusted identity
The Chamber brand already carries significant recognition across the region, so a complete departure would have risked losing that valuable association. Instead, we evolved what already existed.
Our creative approach centred around the iconic Chamber “B” device, representing business at the heart of everything the organisation does. We transformed it into a premium awards marque, introducing metallic finishes, dynamic textures and a star motif to represent achievement and ambition. Regional colour accents helped distinguish each division whilst maintaining a cohesive family of brands.
To bring the identity to life, we developed animation, motion assets and supporting graphics, creating a system that feels celebratory, modern and unmistakably Chamber.
More than a logo
The project extended far beyond visual identity. Alongside the new brand, we created a complete toolkit to support the launch and long-term promotion of the awards, including brand guidelines, messaging pillars, content planning, social media templates, website assets and creative resources.
At the heart of the programme sat a simple message: We all belong here.
This became a guiding principle throughout both the visual identity and communications strategy, helping position the awards as something every ambitious business could aspire to be part of, regardless of size, sector or stage of growth.
A platform for future success
The rebrand has given the awards programme renewed energy, clarity and momentum.
The new identity provides the Chamber with a scalable framework for communicating the awards, celebrating regional success and encouraging more businesses to put themselves forward. Most importantly, it creates a stronger sense of connection between local achievement and Greater Birmingham recognition, helping more organisations see themselves as part of the Chamber’s success story.
A brand designed not just to recognise excellence, but to inspire it.
