Revamping the Fun Run

The Royal Sutton Fun Run is  celebrating its milestone 40th event this year, so we were delighted to be approached to help them mark the occasion with a fresh new brand look. With a very corporate and static brand, it was decided that this milestone should be marked with a fresh and exciting brand identity.

The demise of the local newspapers, a major channel in advertising the event, meant the brand had to work harder than ever to capture the attention of their audience, convey the community vibe of the event, and encourage people to sign up and be a part of something special. Challenge accepted!

The Adventure

Our brief was to shake off the corporate feel and embrace the ‘fun’ element right from the get-go, so we set to work to create a logo design and brand elements that had really embraced that ‘feel-good’ factor. We brought in a playful type face and adapted the ‘U’ into a smile, and the ‘R’ into running legs, which we animated into a run and a wink!

The campaign headline we proposed was ‘8.5 miles of smiles’ which we splashed across all their brand touch points. Wrapping up the identity in its current royal red and blue palette was a nod to the heritage and history of the event which is so important. A new website, through Gravitas Web Design, was also developed.

As we approach this key 40-year milestone for the Fun Run, now felt the right time to refresh and evolve the logo and breathe new life into our identity. We all love the new brand, and the ‘characters’ in the U and R really reflect the ‘fun’ element of the event that was previously missing. It has certainly connected with people as we have had record registration numbers, which we are absolutely delighted about!

The Destination

We made a splash with the brand launch;  billboards, social branding, social posts, emailers, roller banners and a major leaflet drop to make a splash across Sutton Coldfield and the surrounding area, so when registration opened there was an instant demand for places. It has sparked a level of excitement to such a degree, that the number of people registered has so far exceeded previous years.
The new brand has set the tone for what will be, we predict, its most exciting and successful event to date! Walk, jog or run… we will definitely be there! Will you?
